Why Arsenal will continue to fail until Arsene Wenger is replaced

"Arsene Wenger is a specialist in failure"

Why Arsenal will specialise in failure until Arsene Wenger is replaced

Words from Chelsea's current manager, Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea manager recently suggested that if any other manager had pushed another manager in the middle of the match, as Arsene Wenger had done to the 'Special One" in their recent game, he would have been treated more harshly.

The above statement is probably true, but this could be down to the fact that Arsenal are not seen as a threat anymore.

Arsenal are a spent force, forever playing catch up, but at a pace far slower than those ahead of them are moving.

Before the match on Saturday against Hull City, Arsenal were all set for another disappointment caused by yet another injury crisis. Every year Arsene Wenger's side is hit by injuries, this is a reoccurring problem which needs to in order for Arsenal to move one. Every season we hear that a player is out for 3 to 6 weeks, then all of a sudden it turns out that they will be out for 3 to 4 months. We are not sure if it is because of the training or the physio, but as an Arsenal fan this needs to stop.

Wenger said he would move for a defender in the January transfer. Just to let you know that we are now in October and Arsenal had a scarce defence after selling Vermaelen in the last transfer window.

Nacho Monreal is a great back up full back for Arsenal, but how Arsene Wenger seems to think that he is a worthwhile option for centre back for the next 3 month is something many Arsenal fans will never understand.

As the transfer window closed, Arsenal's board of directors weighed up making some kind of move for William Carvalho, the Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder, but with Arsene Wenger abroad refereeing a charity match, they were only able (or perhaps truly willing) to sign Danny Welbeck, unable to break into United’s first team as a striker. No disrespect towards Danny Welbeck, but this is the truth.

This came after Wenger decided not to take Cesc Fabregas to Arsenal, Arsenal fans should not feel hate towards their former captain because, he wanted to return to the club where his heart lies. Now us Arsenal fans can only imagine a side with Cesc Fabregas, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez & William Carvalho. There is an extremely long list of players Arsene Wenger "Almost" bought. If you were ever to see this list, I'm sure you would think Arsene Wenger is mad.

Cesc Fabregas is best midfielder in the Premier League at the moment, firing Diego Costa and therefore Chelsea to the top of the table.

Carvalho and Fabregas: neither arrived, and instead the risible show of Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini took over duties against Hull. The result says it all!

The summer before last, Flamini was training with Arsenal, a favour to him from Wenger despite him leaving on a free transfer to AC Milan in the past.

He impressed Wenger with his training ground performances and managed to secure a contract on that basis. In the first season he was a useful cynical presence, but an increasingly invisible physical one.

He was a player that could be played around and ignored by the best. This season, against teams like Hull, he can be easily outmuscled.

So it proved when Mohamed Diame burst through Arsenal’s midfield, and then grappled with Flamini’s shirt and neck to get ahead of him.

OK, it was an obvious foul, but in previous years Flamini, or the more physically resilient Gilberto Silva, Patrick Vieira or Edu would not have stood for such interference.

Those Arsenal legends would have fought back, at the very least, but in this instance Flamini simply gave up. Diame was provided with the chance to equalise not just because of the referee’s lenience, but because of Flamini’s slackness. We should not be surprised this is part of Flamini's game now.

On to Jack Wilshere, I think he showed why Paul Scholes regards him with borderline contempt. He looks really nice on the ball, yes, but too often his important passes are underhit. With Hull sitting deep, that failing pass became increasingly apparent. It is not that Wilshere cannot pass well, is that he just does not do it enough, just as Arsenal cannot play well as a team often enough.

Danny Welbeck’s late conversion should be celebrated by his old fans at Manchester United, and his current ones for England and Arsenal. He has proven that he can be a regular goalscorer.

The problem, again, is that it is not enough now. He rescued a point where he should, given the confidence he has in his own ability, be winning them. He missed an early chance to put his side ahead when his team were on top, demonstrating Arsenal’s lack of clinical edge.

For a decade now, Wenger has been specialising in failure. Although, we should not forget what he has done for the club and the great memories he has given us. From my point of view, this should be Wenger's last season hopefully we can see him off with a trophy, defending the FA Cup would be good.

It is time to take Arsenal into a different direction, without forgetting the ethic implement by Wenger. A new figure head with fresh/modern ideas will definitely help our current players and will bring the best out of the likes of Ozil, Walcott, Sanchez and Welbeck. We have an english core coming through which great for the future of the club.

We must remember no one can replace Wenger. In my opinion it looks like Arsenal fans are worried as to who will come in after Wenger steps down. We have seen Manchester United take many steps backwards since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, this is something we do not want to replicate. Arsenal is a club that strives for longevity, we do not want managers who intend to come here, win a few trophies and then leave.

Arsenal is a club with integrity, Wenger's successor will be carefully thought out.
