Was anyone else disappointed in the Merseyside derby? It was pathetic I was expecting goals goals and more goals. Manchester United pulled off an unbelievable comeback and Paul Pogba almost won my player of the matchweek. But, he only showed up in the second half and Welbeck put in a shift for 90 minutes.
Danny Welbeck who has not scored a Premier League goal since September was Arsenal's saviour on Sunday as they beat Southampton 3-2 at the Emirates. Welbeck was involved in all three of the goals for the Gunners in what was probably his best performance this season.
His first contribution came on the 28th minute, his sublime touch in the box after some neat football played by Arsenal set up Aubameyang who no doubt brought Arsenal level. Welbeck's awareness and execution was done to perfection creating the equaliser.
He put Arsenal ahead on 38th with some individual skill, taking on the Saints defenders shooting from the edge of the box. It took a deflection to beat the keeper, but if you don't buy a ticket you can't win the raffle.
After Southampton drew level to make the match 2-2, Welbeck scored the winner with a back post header. He deserved his goal as he worked extremely hard working up and down the left flank and in the central striking position. He did miss an open goal before this but redeemed himself scoring the winner, securing the three points and giving Arsenal their sixth straight win.
Congratulations to Danny Welbeck though he has overcome a lot of injuries and scored goals for club and country. I still don't think he has hit the heights his career can hit, but fitness will be the key behind this. If he can help Arsenal to lift the Europa League Cup I think he will be on that plane to Russia.
