Ghanaian striker David Accam joins MLS side Chicago Fire

From Hartpury College to Chicago Fire!

David Accam is from Accra, Ghana in 2008 he won a scholarship as a teenager to be educated at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, England; Where he began his career playing for the college and university sides before playing for Ledbury Town, Evesham and then moving on to the Nike Academy.

Shortly after joining the Nike Academy, English coach Graham Potter brought the Ghanian to Sweden to play for Östersunds FK where he would join up with fellow "Right to Dream" and Hartpury College graduates Isaac Shaze and Sam Mensah.

With 8 goals in 13 appearances for Östersunds FK, David Accam was swooped by Swedish Allsvenskan side Helsingborg IF for a transfer fee of 2 million SEK.

He has scored 30 goals in 62 games for Helsingborg IF and that has alerted Premier League sides hoping for a January bargain.

The forward has already found the net 16 times this season, and has been called up to the Ghana squad recently, although he is yet to win his first cap.

Announcing the deal on Friday 19th December, MLS side Chicago Fire said the Ghana international will be part of the 2015 squad pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and Visa.

“David is an exciting, creative player with a goal-scoring mentality,” said Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “I’m pleased that David will be joining the Fire. He’s a key piece as we continue to build a deep squad in preparation for the 2015 season and we’re looking forward to having him on our team.”

The 24-year-old who also goes by the nickname "Titi" seems to be very excited about his move to the states, he goes on to say:

“I’m really excited to be a part of MLS and the Chicago Fire,

“The commitment that the Fire showed me was the main reason I chose Chicago over other offers that I had. I would also like to thank the coach Frank Yallop and the owner Andrew Hauptman for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play for the Fire. I cannot wait to repay their faith.

“I’ve had an amazing journey in soccer so far, and I’m thankful to everyone and every club that has helped me along the way – Right to Dream, Hartpury College, Nike Academy, Ostersund and Helsingborg. I know that Chicago is going to be a great home for me, and I’m looking forward to giving everything I have to become part of the Fire family, with my teammates, the club staff and of course, the fans, especially Section 8.”

Titi's next aim is to represent Ghana and earn his first international cap, he has a great chance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

“I want to play for Ghana in the Nations Cup and I’m most ready,” Accam told Accra-based Joy FM.

“Everyone wants the best for the country, everyone wants to play in the Nations Cup because it is a big stage for every player.”

“I always come and do my best for the team and the coach is the one who decides who plays for the national team. I hope when the coach decides, it will be the best for the country.

“Avram Grant is a good manager, he’s got a lot of experience, coaching a lot of African players, especially at Portsmouth.”

Accam will make his debut Afcon appearance if invited to Equatorial Guinea 2015.
